yakuza in a sprint

Here's a run cycle I did in school last week. The sketch below was done to figure out the colors and the style. And for those of you who wants to zoom to get a better look at the animation, but doesn't know how to (yep, that's you mom) hold Ctrl while scrolling ;)

I've just decided to post more random sketches... I almost don't sketch just for the fun of it anymore. It's almost always with a goal or some sort of an end product. But I missed it a lot.
So here we have (from left to right), some quite sexy looking bear yelling at a fork, the spanish hoof-handed half-bodied chippendale Camilo , ummm... no comment, that old jewish guy who always forget his keys, Professor McKeith who found something shiny and is wearing baby shoes and finally a little cute squidmonkey.

And here's a drawing of my sassy friend thomas "kiwiboy" mikkelsen.

pretty damn ultra

During the last couple of days I've had this wild and almost uncontrollable urge to draw ULTRAMAN... So here he is.

taste

A couple of weeks ago I had a character design class where we had around 3 days to design the characters for an animated version of the short story "Taste" by Roald Dahl. So here's my version.

And here's a moderately interesting little view into the process.

bulbs in the ring

This week I have character design and our first homework was to design to light bulb characters, a troublemaker and a jesus, and we only had one day to do it in.

I apparently chose a palette of ugly and almost colors...

color tests with your good ol buddy, zangief

Just playing around with shading techniques on an old drawing of one of my all time favorite russians.

Here's the quick groundwork, done with a lasso.

Then I went over to painter and played around with some tool that I can't really remember.

Since it's just a test there aren't really any final version, but this one I really like as well. This was done in photoshop with some fancy brush I made.

sea-monstrosities and homosexual bums

I was in Lawrence Marvit's design class a couple of weeks ago and it was hard on the brains. There we dealt with value (in grayscale), space, texture and sculptural form.

One of the first assignments was to sculpt a sea-monster with pencil or photoshop making it as dynamic as we could.

Then we did a romantic scene in a junkyard, building up an atmospheric feel by stacking values and to make it interesting spatially.
Lines was actually kind of a no no in this assignment but I find it really hard working with only shapes and no borders.

And here's the final version.

1.12.08

two old jews in a boat & a sea of dead fish

Here's another poster for my school.
I really like the feeling of this and I'm considering doing a whole series with these guys investigating paranormal oddities, like hellboy, but in a really boring way without any fighting.

Here's the lines.

A quick colortest.

And the final poster.

13.11.08

cannibalism

This weeks theme in my class is cannibals and this is what I came up with. Sort of a cliché really but what the shiz. I wanted a mignolaish sort of feel to it without it being too fanartsy, and I think I achieved it. This only took a couple of hours but thats probably because I didn't have to worry about the background or colored shadows.

Quick sketch in pencil...

And here, with some simple ink and colors.

12.11.08

miller's crossin'

I basically just copied the original movie poster but I kinda like the lines. I did it in no time which sort of makes it movie poster croquis.

11.11.08

frank 'n stein

In design class we did an illustrated semi-abstract, stylized and compressed version of the original frakenstein story.

Here's the first one I did. This was way to cliché and character focused, but I kinda like the look of it anyhow.

And here's the final one. A little to many details for the assignment but fudge it.

circus

In this exercise we had a week to do a circus themed animation. I worked together with my
buddy Kristoffer. I did the characterdesign with his advice and animated the monkey, and Kristoffer animated the bear.
(kristoffer to the left, me to the right)

Here's the characters.

And here's the final, but far from finished, animation. The quality of the linetester pretty much makes it almost impossible to see my character...weak.

some more animation

We recently had a couple of weeks of doing walks.

Here's the pink panther in a ''normal'' walk. The tail is a little wonky.

Here he is again in a more personalized walk, a macho walk. With some shit rapped around it.

And then we did a dog walk.

And finally, a dog walking in perspective. This one was fairly hard since it's the first perspective walk we've done and the fact that it's with four legs.
